DEPRESSION

Depression is one of the most common mood disorders. It affects over 10% of the population with women twice a likely to suffer from it.

Many well-known people have been open about their struggles with depression, including Uma Thurman, George Michael, Kylie Minogue, as well as Winston Churchill and Abraham Lincoln.

Depression affects more than just your mood. It can interfere with eating and sleeping. It can make you irritable and demotivated, often creating a sense of guilt. Concentration can be difficult and often you lose pleasure in things and activities you would usually enjoy. It can leave you feeling hopeless about the future and severely undermine your self confidence.

Treatment

Treating depression I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and IPT to improve mood and emotional regulation, develop coping strategies and reduce the impact depression is having on your life.

For many adults the treatment of choice is medication and therapy, so I would liaise with your GP in the management of your treatment.
